Name: Tom Bianchi
Years with Dassault Systèmes: 2
Speciality/Role: Marketing Manager, SIMULIA, UK

Hi there! I’m a marketing manager with a twist – I started my education as an engineer before straying into this profession following my graduation from The University of Leeds in 2006 (Aviation Technology). I then spent a year in the telecoms industry before joining DS in 2007. I love technology and working for DS lets me see our customers’ many wonderful uses of technology every day. I’m a big motorsport fan (particularly F1), a private pilot and generally an aviation geek! You’ll see a couple of my posts are from events – part of my job is organising and attending events to promote our products across many industries – watch out for more of the same.

Hi. I’m from Paris, North Carolina (oops, I mean I live in France but am an American native!), have been working in IT since before the bubble popped, and occasionally get geeked out about immersive virtuality. I’ve shelved backpacking and yoga to give running a try, and I love chewing Mentos Cube gum while I type. As chief blogger I look after 3D Perspectives and the growing Dassault Systèmes blogosphere.

Hello. I’m an engineer working for Dassault Systèmes since 1992. I’m an Internet-addict and a 3D enthusiast. I’m managing the Passion for Innovation technical sponsorship Program. As such, I’m always searching for passionate people with amazing ideas that our 3D solutions could help bring to life. If this sounds like you, please contact me! In my everyday life, I also love photography, music, Japanese short poetry (haikus), electronic gizmos and Siamese fighting fishes (I’ve got three of them on my desk, yes!).

My work in corporate strategy and product development goes back to my graduate school days when I studied at the University of Michigan’s Ross School of Business, completing my dissertation on “Alliances for Innovation and the Strategic Intent to Build Core Competence.” With roots in natural sciences, systems engineering, and architecture / urban planning, the common thread throughout my professional life could be called “Science Technology and Society.” I am most passionate about how science and technology are commercialized for improving civilization. Today my mission is to help increase Dassault Systemes image, identity and growth potential in targeted communities and markets.

Hello. Originally born and raised in the UK, but I have now lived in the Boston area for the last ten years. Started in the technology field back in 1996 focused mostly on the networking and telecommunications industry (the whole ATM vs gigabit Ethernet debate!!) and I’ve been working for DS since May of 2006. I have to be honest, as a member of the PR/marketing team I can talk a great technology game, but my technical skills are limited to changing light bulbs!! I’m a huge sports nut and now span the Atlantic in terms of my love for football (soccer), cricket and rugby and then baseball, basketball and America football. I also love cooking, travelling (Japan and Brazil my two favorite places in the last few years), reading the New York Times on a daily basis and trying my hand at Sudoku.

Hi, I was ‘born in the CAD industry’ in 1996, start-ups by choice in the 3D and then Clean Technology businesses. I’ve lived in France, Spain, the UK, and recently 4 years in Japan from where I hiked everywhere I could in Asia. Forever, environmental challenges have been my passion and all my energy is now focused on creating solutions to protect the planet. I run the team in charge of creating software and services for “eco-sustainability”. Definitely the coolest job in the company.

Speciality/Role: Automotive Strategy

Hi. I’ve been working in the automotive industry for 14 years now. I was once an engine design engineer in the UK and I’m now part of Dassault Systèmes’ organisation that supports our automotive customers and fine tunes our product portfolio for this industry. My specialty is powertrain, i.e. engines and transmissions, but this will of course evolve to anything that powers cars’ wheels in the future. I’m an eco-warrior too so I’m passionate about helping our customers find solutions for sustainable transportation. I hope this blog will provide a great way to share thoughts and clarify messages so that we at DS can create better and more efficient products.

Speciality/Role: CPG Strategy

Hi. Working in a technology company is new for me as I’ve spent the last 20+ years with on the business side, in a consumer packaged goods (CPG) company working in a variety of functions (strategy, marketing, sales and operations). I spent the last several years leading the design of my CPG company’s innovation business process, selecting and implementing technology to support it and then leading the strategic decision making process to determine what we were actually going to work on for innovation. I am passionate about innovation, consumer insights, business process and technology that provide business results. I am thrilled at the opportunity to exchange ideas and thoughts that will lead us to serving you better.

Speciality/Role: All Things Hi-Tech

Hello, I’m almost what one would call a California native, living in San Diego since 1983 (originally from the mid-west). I’ve had the pleasure of working at some great places such as Qualcomm, Medtronic, Alcoa, NCR, AT&T etc… where I was able to experience the different challenges that global companies face in innovating and leading in their respective markets. Since 1999, I have worked directly in the PLM industry as we continue to experience the growth of vision in how software can enable new ways of working and the support of new business models. I love working with different groups, personalities, and new challenges to learn, develop and grow together. I was an avid musician in so. Cal in the 90’s and still play a bit occasionally here at the San Diego – CoE for HT… I look forward to our interaction here on 3DPersectives blogosphere !

Greetings! As part of the CPG strategy team at Dassault Systemes, I bridge the gap between market needs and DS software solutions, ensuring that our CPG product suite consistently delivers practical, differentiated value to our customers and is always reflective of their collective voice. What I love most about my role is working with cross-functional industry leaders to understand their evolving automation needs in the context of their own micro environments and in the larger context of their corporate and industry macro environments. I believe that the simplest solution is always the best solution, and as such I avoid developing technology for technology’s sake at all costs. In the words of the great jazz man Charles Mingus, “Making the simple complicated is commonplace; making the complicated simple – awesomely simple – that’s creativity.” I have a voracious appetite for learning – in that spirit, I am currently pursuing a MS in Human Computer Interaction from Iowa State University, working with leading researchers at the Virtual Reality Applications Center (www.vrac.iastate.edu). My wife and I are very lucky to live on Sullivan’s Island, SC (near Charleston) where we spend as much time as possible on the beach.

Speciality/Role: High Tech/Semiconductor Strategy

I’m a people person…and I’m an engineer. You don’t hear that too often. But in my role I’m lucky enough to work with global customers, partners, sales, marketing, engineering and nearly everyone else that you can think of. So, by definition, I must be a people person. In defining Industry Solutions for High Tech/Semiconductor, I’m part of an exciting market that has unique technology and business challenges. There are semiconductor chips in so many products that we use every day. I’m looking at collaborative PLM as a way to change how our customers innovate, design and bring their products to market. Although I was trained as an electrical engineer at Rutgers University (Go Scarlet Knights!), I was “seasoned” at companies like RCA/GE/Harris Semiconductor, Racal-Redac, Viewlogic, Synchronicity and MatrixOne.

Name: Tim Webb

Speciality/Role: SIMULIA, Marketing Communications & Programs

My goal within SIMULIA is to enhance our customer’s experience with our brand in all of our interactions including our international customer conference, our public website, our INSIGHTS magazine, as well as other activities. Even after 14 years in the engineering software industry, it’s still amazing to me that nearly every product we use, has been simulated with software such as Abaqus FEA or CATIA Analysis. I am passionate about communicating how our customers are using realistic simulation and optimization technology to improve the safety, reliability, and performance of a broad range of products, such as safer vehicles, high-performance soccer balls, fuel-efficient composite airplanes, and innovative medical devices. Maybe it comes from being a University of Iowa alumni, but I am equally enthusiastic about sharing the stories of how our team of global engineers and software developers are able to transfer their depth and breadth of engineering knowledge into our products and to our customers through training, support, and online communities.

Hi, I’m Matt, and I work for SolidWorks. I came here last June after spending 10 years in consumer electronics, and I’m constantly blown away by the passion our customers have for 3D design. I’m a lapsed home brewer, an ageing indie rocker, a sometimes Vespa mechanic, and general information sponge. You can find me online pretty much all day if you know where to look.
