Virtual Unreality Takes the Stage at #SXSW

By Aurelien

Benoît Marini, Experiential Lab Director at Dassault Systèmes, gave SXSW2014 attendees a behind-the-scenes look at how 3D was used to create a virtual set for “Mr. and Mrs. Dream”, a performance that Dassault Systèmes helped bring to stage in partnership with the Pietragalla-Derouault Dance Company.

On Stage at #SXSW: Blurring the Lines Between the 3D Virtual and the Real World

By Elena

We will soon be alongside some of the most revolutionary minds at the SXSW Interactive Festival in Austin, TX.  Not only will we be in the crowds, but we also will be on-stage! Dassault Systèmes is honored to be a part of this prestigious event for the second year in a row and we look forward to sharing how innovative uses of 3D technology are pushing boundaries in interesting places—with a presentation Saturday, March 8 between 3:30 – 4:30 p.m. CT. in the Capital Ballroom at the Omni Downtown.  Mark your calendar by adding the session to your schedule.

Mr and Mrs Dream show

This year, we are showing how Dassault Systèmes’ 3DEXPERIENCE is transforming the theatrical stage.  “Mr. and Mrs. Dream” is based on the work of theater innovator Eugene Ionesco who frequently connected ideas and images to create the unthinkable.  Using the latest 3D technologies, researchers and 3D designers at Dassault Systèmes have created a world where engineering, art and science can come together to deliver new designs and products—and even a new classical of theater product or stage

Benoît Marini, Experiential Lab Director at Dassault Systèmes, will give attendees a behind-the-scenes look at how 3D was used to create a virtual set for “Mr. and Mrs. Dream,” a performance that Dassault Systèmes helped bring to stage in partnership with the Pietragalla-Derouault Dance Company.  “Mr. and Mrs. Dream,” which premiered recently in Paris, merges the theater with 3D technology, removing the constraints of physical staging and eliminating boundaries between real and virtual worlds.

During the show, performers are immersed in a 3D world, where walls disappear, furniture evaporates, time moves faster and dancers leap from asteroid to asteroid. This unique intersection of the virtual and physical world is made possible by what we’ve called the “Magic Box” – a 3D universe in which dancers perform that is projected on four surfaces (three walls and the ground) engaging them from every angle.

Whether or not you are able to attend, be sure to follow the conversation on Twitter at #SXSW and #3Ddance, or through our dedicated live dashboard.  We hope to see you there!

Help Put Dassault Systèmes On-Stage at One of the Hottest Events in Technology

By Suzanne

Mr & Mrs Dream

In the past 15 years South by Southwest, or as it is commonly known SXSW, has grown into one of the most important events for new and innovative ideas, films and music. Held in Austin, Texas, the event has several festivals including SXSW Interactive which showcases new technologies and has been called “the Davos of Digital” by Forbes and “an indispensable gathering of the minds” by Time Magazine.
Last year Al Bunshaft teamed with Rus Gant from Harvard University to introduce the world of Giza3D during a session they called, “Digital Time Machines & the Future of Learning”.
This year we think it is the perfect place to show how Dassault Systèmes’ 3DEXPERIENCE will change the world of stage, similar to how “green screen” revolutionized film.
“Mr. & Mrs. Dream,” which premiered recently in Paris, is the first to blend these disciplines on stage, creating a set that becomes a character in symbiosis with performers.

The proposed panel, “Virtual Unreality: Adding 3D to the Live Stage”, will be presented by Mehdi Tayoubi.

This year, selection of panels at SXSW is done by online voting. SXSW received approximately 3,000 proposals this year so getting selected is extremely competitive and they’re now asking for the public’s vote. Public voting ultimately accounts for 30% of the decision-making process. Voting will close on Friday, September 6 (11:59 PM CST).
Please help us get out the vote for the Dassault Systèmes panel! :-) How can you do this?

First, vote! To do this you’ll need to sign up for the SXSW panel picker site. It only takes a moment to do this. Once you’re signed up, you can vote for the Dassault Systèmes panel here.
Second, let others know about the panel and encourage them to vote as well. You can do this several ways:

When you give the panel a “thumbs up” you can choose to share it over your social media channels – Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn.
You can also Tweet about the panel. The easiest way is to Retweet this @Dassault3DS Tweet or copy and paste one of the Tweets below:
