We will soon be alongside some of the most revolutionary minds at the SXSW Interactive Festival in Austin, TX.  Not only will we be in the crowds, but we also will be on-stage! Dassault Systèmes is honored to be a part of this prestigious event for the second year in a row and we look forward to sharing how innovative uses of 3D technology are pushing boundaries in interesting places—with a presentation Saturday, March 8 between 3:30 – 4:30 p.m. CT. in the Capital Ballroom at the Omni Downtown.  Mark your calendar by adding the session to your schedule.

Mr and Mrs Dream show

This year, we are showing how Dassault Systèmes’ 3DEXPERIENCE is transforming the theatrical stage.  “Mr. and Mrs. Dream” is based on the work of theater innovator Eugene Ionesco who frequently connected ideas and images to create the unthinkable.  Using the latest 3D technologies, researchers and 3D designers at Dassault Systèmes have created a world where engineering, art and science can come together to deliver new designs and products—and even a new classical of theater product or stage

Benoît Marini, Experiential Lab Director at Dassault Systèmes, will give attendees a behind-the-scenes look at how 3D was used to create a virtual set for “Mr. and Mrs. Dream,” a performance that Dassault Systèmes helped bring to stage in partnership with the Pietragalla-Derouault Dance Company.  “Mr. and Mrs. Dream,” which premiered recently in Paris, merges the theater with 3D technology, removing the constraints of physical staging and eliminating boundaries between real and virtual worlds.

During the show, performers are immersed in a 3D world, where walls disappear, furniture evaporates, time moves faster and dancers leap from asteroid to asteroid. This unique intersection of the virtual and physical world is made possible by what we’ve called the “Magic Box” – a 3D universe in which dancers perform that is projected on four surfaces (three walls and the ground) engaging them from every angle.

Whether or not you are able to attend, be sure to follow the conversation on Twitter at #SXSW and #3Ddance, or through our dedicated live dashboard.  We hope to see you there!

Remember good olde animated GIFs of the 90’s, like the one above? The New York Times says they made a comeback in 2012, and even made a foray into art, as unexpected it may seem.

GIFs are chic! Dance and Virtual Unreality too !

Just discover our new unexpected project when engineers met with artists to reinvent a discipline … Watch our sneak preview below for yourself! :-)

If your Fridays are anything like mine, you always have lots to do work-wise, but boy is it tough.  Our brains, souls and bodies are dang tired by the time Friday happens.

Which is why I thought you might enjoy a little art therapy this afternoon!

Look what I stumbled across today, an ethereal immersive interactive art experience! ( I was going to add the adjectives 3D and musical too, but well, five adjectives are a little much, don’t you think?)

Turn up your volume and check out what the students of Université de Technologie de Compiègne, France have created!

I think they’ll be at Laval Virtual.  BTW, so will I; more on that soon.

Bon weekend,

P.S.  Are you interested in more posts on 3D and interactive art?
