Throughout the year, Dassault Systèmes is involved in a lot of worldwide events promoting engineering education.

From October 15th to 18th was held the first World Engineering Education Forum (WEEF) in Buenos Aires, Argentina. This event brought together the biggest and most important international organizations devoted to engineering education like The MathWorks, HP or Microsoft. The objective was to think and find solutions about sustainable development and social inclusion through engineering education.

As a premium sponsor, Dassault Systèmes played a major role during this event:

Our 3DS booth gathered the Academia team from 3DS HQ, the 3DS Latin America team and Teckdes, our local academic reseller. They met with students, deans and educators, but also hosted several meetings, including a workshop highlighting academic projects authored by Argentinean students.

Our 3DS booth gathered the Academia team from the HQ, the LATAM Marketing team and Teckdes, our local academic reseller. They met with students, deans and educators, but also hosted several meetings, including a workshop highlighting academic projects authored by Argentinean students.

Invited on stage, students from the National University of La Plata and Universidad Tecnologica Nacional presented their projects made with CATIA, SIMULIA, SolidWorks and other 3DS software. Have a look at the projects:

Modelization and analysis of the operational capacity of La Plata airport in order to modernize and improve its capacity.
Made with: CATIA V6, SolidWorks, ENOVIA V6 and 3DVIA Composer

Innovation product design: The Smart Doormat has been designed to clean shoes and to prevent the floors from rotting. Indeed, our houses, hospital and all indoor places in general are   polluted with germs, dirt, bacteria and so on because people don’t take off their shoes.
Made with: CATIA V5 and 3DVIA Composer

An alternative solution for recycling automotive tires: the use of tires as water conducts. The objective of this project was to develop a machine to manufacture a duct for/to drain stacked water.
Made with: CATIA V5 and SIMULIA

Design of a Three Wheel Electric Vehicle:  The vehicle is powered with 19,5 kw/hs Lithium Batteries and has Brushless Type Electric motor.  Its maximum speed is 60 km/h with a range of 300 km.
Made with: CATIA V5 and SIMULIA

You can find on our Facebook page more pictures from the WEEF 2012 event as well as more details about the student’s projects. Hope you’ll enjoy!  :D

Paris 3D Saga – Experience it live, online and mobile

Paris 3D SagaA couple years after the Khufu and Giza projects, we’re back into a brand new historical 3D adventure. This time, it’s nothing less than the most visited capital in the world, the City of Lights, also know as Paris ;-)  “Paris 3D Saga” is an educative and entertaining journey in the history of Paris beginning 20 centuries ago. Today, we’re releasing three ways to experience the Paris 3D Saga: a live event (if you have the chance to be in Paris tonight), an online 3D experience, as well as an iPad app. Please have a look at the video previews below!

At a first glance, Paris 3D might just look as a video game. It’s not. Each step of the reconstitution was verified and validated with history experts. An history committee under the supervision of Didier Busson, history expert and archaeologist of Paris city, ensured that the project was scientifically and architecturally accurate. Because in the end, whether it’s for our customers from any industry or for an historical reconstitution, our technology and approach serve the same intent: it’s not about building virtual universes for the sake of virtuality ; it’s about building virtual universes that are the closest to the real world, for the sake or reality. Or, in a single word, 3DEXPERIENCE :)

Last week, 3DS Academy (Dassault Systèmes’ program serving the global academia community) launched a new challenge dubbed Project of the Year, available on both 3DS Academy website and Facebook.

This contest is open to every student and teacher using Dassault Systèmes’ solutions.

Every project, film or presentation made with CATIA, SolidWorks, SIMULIA Abaqus, 3DVIA Shape, etc., will have two chances to win:

  • One jury prize, granted upon selection by a Jury of professionals
  • One public prize, granted upon votes from Facebook fans

Rewarded projects will receive two iPad3 and many other great prizes!

To jump in the contest, students just have to post their best project in the 3DS Academy Projects Showroom, and it will be automatically reposted on the dedicated Facebook page where everyone can vote. They have nothing more to do, except having their friends to vote for their project ;)

So, if you’re a student or teacher, don’t wait anymore to jump in by letting us know about your best project done with any of our software. If you’re not, then you can still vote for your favorite project and share this contest with any potential candidate you’d know!

Have fun and enjoy! :)
